Sainte Marie Island on the east coast of Madagascar

Old pirates lair during the XVI century, it is today a high place of Malagasy tourism and ecotourism... located on the East coast of Madagascar, it offers 60 km length and 2 to 5 km width of land,
the visitors who discover, picture and live their old child dreams of:
Robinson, Black Pearl, William Kid, Le Bigorne, Rackam the Red, La
Buse, Peter Pan, etc... The reality and the imaginary coast themselves…
Some sites, such as the Pirates cemetery or the Saint Pierre cemetery, are full of history… one can get there by the Bayard path, close to the south dam, it is situated opposite the Madam islet.

on the right is the first church in Madagascar (1857) and beyond, the island of the Swindlers… reminiscent names that makes one dream about the adventures of the pirates…

It is an island which takes someone out of his element, the intimacy, the walk and the communion with nature.
It is thus an island of discovery. Sainte Marie constitute a touristy
product for a small number of people who attribute value to this
character and are ready to spend more to escape the banality of the
traditional tourist stations.
This type of product answers an international request which will do nothing but increase: that of a tourist destination remind a harmony with nature, a feeling of safe haven and of tranquility far from any kind of pollution... and if Joelle and Jean Jacques chose Sainte Marie to build their life and the "LAKANA", it is for that reason... |

Jean Jacques and Joelle Ravello set foot in 1982 and opened the "LAKANA" with only 03 bungalows in 1985... Love story... between an island and an establishment...
Of basic infrastructure when created, the hotel evolved throughout the
years, on the comfort and installations side, but also on the level of
its capacity since it currently counts 16 bungalows;
for which, a maximum of natural building materials were used in order
to keep its character purposefully turned towards the integration with
the "island garden" which is Sainte Marie.
The hotel being located on the western coast of the island, 4 km from
the airport and 7 km from Ambodifototra; main city. It benefits from an
exceptional situation and you will particularly appreciate a
spectacular sunset on the Big Earth. |
